Summer Walker, An Introvert In An Extrovert Industry, Is Too Legit To Quit With Over 41 Million Streams In The First Week Since Release Of Over It Album

Summer Walker is only 23 years old and has garnered a loyal fan base since the release of her mixed tape album Last Day of Summer on October 19, 2018.  She recently released her first studio album Over It on October 4, 2019.  In the first week of her Over It release, Walker had over 41 million streams and was consistently ranked among the top 10 most influential artists.  When you listen to the album, her jazzy mellow voice is sensual and easy on the ears.  It’s as if an old soul is trapped in a young woman’s body.  In interviews, Summer is often asked why she titled her album, Over It.  Simply put, she states, that’s how she feels about life.  Watching her interview videos, it seems that’s how she feels about interviews as well.  In fact, in a recent tweet on Nov 4, Summer wrote, “[Nah, for real] though I’ve decided y’all don’t deserve me lol I knew from day one I was to real for this sh*t. Y’all can have the music & ima just head out. F*ck the interviews, photo shoots, videos, & really the shows too. I’ll finish this tour out tho. I’m just a regular person, nothing more. Lol people got this fame shit f*cked up. I been me from day one, I’m not bout to start acting different, talking different, treating people different, or looking different. people really expect too much from you.”  It’s clear that Summer is an introvert’s introvert often referring to her desire to have her own space and to create her music in solitude.   Yet, the music industry, the fans on social media, and society in general often reward extroversion.  Given her amazing talent, I do hope she is able to find the balance of sharing her talent with the world while still maintaining the normalcy and solitude she needs to sustain and rejuvenate herself.
